   Dear Readers,

Welcome to Stepping Into Transition, the newsletter designed to help you navigate your way through the challenges of change into an authentic and empowered life.

  • The Future Self
  •   If you knew you had access to a source of wisdom that would always lead you to make the most effective and right decisions in your life and business, how empowered, how confident do you think you would feel? How could this knowing give you a sense of faith and comfort that could move you past any stumbling blocks or issues that may be keeping you down.

As a professional coach, one of the techniques I utilize with my clients to give them clarity about their choices and direction is through the visualization and connection with their future self. The future self is an imagining of yourself, lets say several years down the road that is unfettered by doubt, fear or negative conditioning from the past. The future self takes you beyond self imposed limits and is in alignment with your core values, and what it takes for you to truly be fulfilled and successful.

The future self is your highest and best self which knows what is right and true for you in every situation. It has a way of sorting out and prioritizing the most meaningful and important issues in your life, and it is not particularly interested in pleasing others, tolerating or settling. The future self illuminates a path for you to follow and embody. It is one of the most powerful exercises that I have had the privilege of using in working with my clients.

  • Becoming Your Future Self
  •   Let me point to a specific example of how working with the future self can empower someone to make positive changes. Not long ago I facilitated the process with a client. After leading her into a calm and relaxing state, she was able to vividly describe her future self 10 years from now. She saw this woman living in a comfortable home in another part of the country with a new occupation as a writer and motivational speaker. She also described her future self as glowing with an inner radiance, contented and sure of her purpose.

One of my promptings during the exercise was to have my client ask her future self what beliefs she needed to adopt, and what steps she needed to take to get from where she is now to where her future self is 10 years from now. We have used that question and other inquiries to shape her current plan and actions. She has stepped out of her current box and is now learning and trying new things that are in alignment with the aspirations, values and accomplishments of her future self. We have even coined a new phrase for her current phase of learning and exploration. She now sees herself as "The Apprentice Of Her Future Self".

As her coach, I am challenging and motivating her to step into the shoes of her future self. If a fear or doubt creeps in, we address it, and I remind her of the powerful self she is moving towards. Through the eyes and perspective of her future self, the issue that bothered her does not seem as important or taxing.

  • An Invitation
  •   If the future self exercise is something that sounds appealing to you for your own personal quest for positive growth and change, let me suggest that you consider professional coaching. The future self is one of the several techniques that I employ in moving my clients forward in their personal and professional lives. The coaching process with its week to week in person or telephone meetings and continual reinforcement of new habits will get you towards the success that you want. The coaching process keeps the future self real and within reach.

"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. the other is as if everything is."

    -Albert Einstein

In The "Translucent Revolution" by Arjuna Ardagh, the author presents observations, stories and interviews regarding what he calls "translucence"-an emerging awakening by people all over the world to deeper presence and purpose, greater sense of joy, and a new found selflessness and compassion. He cites examples in business, education, religion and the arts. This is a great read for anybody who cares about a positive direction for humanity.

I hope you enjoyed this issue of Stepping Into Transition. Until next time. . .Phil
